Getting Old

TRIXIE

The boys have let me take over for today. I wanted to pass on some werds of wisdom on getting old. Some of you out there are considered Senior Catizens, and some of you are just babies. It's wonderful to have so many furriends of so many ages.

I am 18 years and almost 4 months old. That's a little over 90 in human years. Just recently, I lost my eyesight. It's kind of scary because I get turned around in the house and don't know where I am sometimes. But mommy makes it better for me. And Miles has guided me around some too.

My hips hurt and I walk funny. I am furry unsteady on my feet - I fall over alot, and this morning I slipped down the stairs. Mommy says that she worries about me when she's not here, so she' s bringing up the giant pen from the basement to put me in when she's gone. She puts a litterbox in there (I have been having lots of litter box troubles lately too - I can't seem to make it there in time, so maybe having one real close will help) and my food and some nice big fluffy quilts for me to lay on. The boys will of course jump in and out, but I don't think I can climb up the side anymore to get out. I think it will be ok if I'm only allowed to a confined area for some of the day - at least I won't get lost! This morning I ended up in the bathtub and I couldn't get out. I don't even remember how I got in!
My brother Norton had the same problems too. I miss him so much, but he does come and visit me - I can feel him near me. I know that my time to go to the bridge will be coming up soon, but that's ok too - I'll be wif my brofurrs and I'll be really happy.

I want to thank Mittens for coming over the other day and spending the day with me. I didn't want her to leave, but she did have to go home and take care of her mommy, and I understand that. I like having visitors and anyone can teleport over to see me any time they want. Mommy said it was ok.

Momma's eyes got leaky when she read this, Trixie, but we had a good talk when I was there, and I understand. I think it is a good idea to put you in a pen thing. Much safer for you now and your Momma won't have to worry so much. We all love you!

Miss Trixie, I think you show us all how to have dignity in our golden years. Do not be embarassed by the things you cannot do any longer. Your family is watching out for you for all of those many years that you watched out for them.

You are a terrific and impressive feline even now, Miss Trixie.

Trixie,
My mommy eyes filled with tears when she read this. She had a cat before me name Buffy.Who suffered with alot of the samething's your going through.Yet it was the part about the bathtub Buffy laid in it all night the night before she die.
Trixie like Zeus said your a wonderful amd impressive kitty.Getting old is hard on us kitty's.Thank heaven's for the Rainbow Bridge were where greeted by all our friends and we're free from pain.Mommy was told by friends after Buffy died that she should never get another cat. That the pain of them dying is just to hard to face.Yet mommy now knows how cats enrich our lives and lifts our spirts. We become more to our Humans then cats we become family.I know your a very special kitty Trixie...Huggs and Purrs Your Pal Ariel

You will feel more secure in the smaller area Miss Trixie. Kind of like a cat version of assisted living thatn the older humans have. There is no need for you to wander restlessly. You deserve to have a cosy area with soft quilts like your momma is giving you. And for sure Miles & Sammy will jump in & out and bother you a lot!
You are quite the dignified lady and we adore you too!

I like the assisted living that SSS's have decribed. We all may need this in the future.

Purrs to all the Meezer family, take good care of Trixie, one of our leading senior catizens.

What a wonderful family you have. I really like the assisted living area idea. Such an elegant place, with comfy blankies and a close litter box and love all around instead of worries. When mama goes on her next interview Tuesday afternoon I will come visit, and share some purrs with you.

Hey, a pen with all the comfy stuff sounds fine. I would like something like that, but not to keep me in, just to keep Buddah out.

I'm really sorry you lost your sight. That's got to be the scariest thing of all.

hello, ms trixie. you are a furry, furry wise cat. thank you for sharing that wisdom with us. you are furry brave, and a wonderful role model all kitties. and your mom is doing really good at adjusting your world for you.

we understands some of it already. our She's mombean and dadbean are in the 90s of human years, and some of the things happening to you happen to them also. the dadbean has to be in a protected place so he can't wander off and get hurt, just like you.

and when it's time to go to the bridge, we'll purray for strength for your mom; it's so very hard for beans when we leave.

when you're done catching up with your brofurs, please look for a furry handsome, noble kitty named Uncle Eeker. he'll be wearing a grey velvet tuxedo and bossing other kitties around. he left our She 10 years ago, and She's still missing him drefful; her cheeks are wet now from thinking about him. just tell him She doesn't forget.

and you know, that's how we live on in this world even after we go to the bridge. our beans remember us and --even with their inferior senses-- can sometimes feel us near, like you can norton.

dear ms. trixie, we hope you live happy and unafraid to the end of your days--may they be long, peaceful, and painfree!

loving purrs from nelson, edmund, nitro, and xing

just want to add a thought. sometimes it is very, very hard to make the decision to let our beloved kittys go. but sometimes it is what is best for them when life becomes too painful and confusing. i pray that you will have the wisdom to know the right time so that dear Trixie does not live a life of quantity, not quality. my heart goes out to you all.
