I feel your pain. Having just gone thru that and now on a new computer, I only lost my passwords. I had backed it up and would have used that if they hadn't been able to recover the data off the hard drive. Good luck getting your data back.

Oh noes! That's not too good! Makes us really really think hard about doing backups!

Arghhhhhhhh is right. That happened to us when our pooter died a few months ago. Mum had our photos backed up apart from three weeks, and she thought she had everything else backed up but she keeps finding odd things that weren't.
We hope you can get your pictures back.

Oh no! We too know where you are coming from! My other laptop is in the hospital right now. It had a terrible virus, but not the swine flu, the TOTAL SECURITY bug. They promised they could recover "most of" the data...we are waiting to see. ~Co9T

Lesson to all of us: BACK UP! The Woman needs to back our stuff up before she loses it again. Yep, AGAIN. And maybe backup the backup, cause we lost that once, too, all the last pictures taken of Hank the Dog...

That is FURRY ARGH. Mom's backup drive is most likely toast, but she finks amost efurryfing on it was expendable, cept fur pictors, an she has old backups frum da photo software on CD.

Hard drives haf gotted so cheap, dey's not furry well made no more. Mom's startin to make 2 copies efurry time she backs up (which isn't often enuf).
Puter healin purrs!

Miles, tell yer the mom that a bean *may* be able to reskue sum of the hard drive. The big male bean puts bad hard drives in da freezer (in a ziploc bag) and then can sumtimes extract some of the data.

We haf a Mac now, for that kinna reason. But even then, we still haf the old PC offline (no virus attacks possible. We use it fer secret stuff like passwords lists. MOL!

But even wif da PC, The Big Thing did weekly backups wif a external drive. Werked great!

We hopes ya get all yer files back!

It died at only a year old. I would complain, you might still get some warranty help. It won't hurt to ask. Also, when ours died a couple of years ago, mum had the Geek Guys rescue lots of stuff from the hard drive. Now we use Mozy, Millie's mom recommended it.

Ivan from WMD said...

Take the hard drive out of the box, put it in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer for several hours. Replace it in the box and it should boot--and you'll be able to get your stuff off it.

Good bye my sweet Nicky

Good bye my sweet sweet Nicky.  You has a hard time sometimes with your brain injury, but you were always so sweet.  I love you to the moon...
