Veteran's Day and Rememberance

In 1918, on the eleventh hour in the eleventh day in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of bitter war, an armistice was signed and "the war to end all wars" was over.

The Original Poem handwritten by the author
This is a picture taken during the battle in Flanders during WWI

November 11, 1919: President Woodrow Wilson proclaims the first Armistice Day, proclaiming: "To us in America, the reflections of armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…" The original concept for the celebration was for the suspension of business for a two minute period beginning at 11 A.M., with the day also marked by parades and public meetings.

To all veterans, especially the WWII Veterans like my father, "The Greatest Generation"

THANK YOU for keeping our country free.

I was going to do a Veteran's post on Monday. It was so nice to read your post, so many don't think about where we are now in regards to those who fought to get us out freedoms. Especially the generation of WWII is one of a kind.
Also, I stopped in to remind you that tomorrow is Opus & Roscoe's Mafia Movie Marathon in Italy. They will posting photos of their guests who come in costume. If you don't want to dress up that is OK. Oh boy another all day party!!!

Oh I almost forgot., I am bringing some bootleg gin & beer with me that I picked up while I was visiting Chicago. Hope to see you there.

Very nice veteran's day post! I have to keep reminding myself that DH will be home on Monday (it always messes up my week when he's home like that and he's off Tuesday for another medical test.)

DH is a current soldier
FIL was a Korean War Vet
DH's uncles were WWII Vets
My Grandfathers were Vets

That is a great post. We don't call it Veterans Day here in the UK, it is Remembrance Sunday or Armistice Day. My mum remembers her great-grandfather who was drowned in the Navy in 1915 when her grandfather was just a little boy.

Happy Veterans' Day to all of our American soldiers ... including Grandad who served in Viet Nam back in the sixties and early seventies.

Can you believe that I had to explain to Sparky Fuzzypants and Lucky Charmz that "veterans" are people who serve/served in our military an' NOT the ladies who performed their hoo-ha-ectomies? Brothers can be so dense ...

You wrote a very moving and wonderful post honoring all our veterans. I don't have any veterans in my family, but both my father and mother worked in an airplane factory during WWII, building bombers.

What a wonderful tribute to our veterans. My Daddy, The Ballicus Dad, is a veteran, and we are very proud of him. And several of Mom's great-uncles were veterans, and Daddy's granddaddy was, too. Veterans are very special people.
